After every treatment, relax, detoxify and awaken tired muscles in Jackson Hole's only Indian style Sweat Lodge sauna.

How does it compare to a traditional sweat lodge?
In a traditional sweat lodge, softball sized rocks are heated in a fire. A ceremony is performed while placing the rocks inside a domed tent made of hides and willow saplings. The entire process, in fact, of using a traditional sweat lodge is governed by ritual.

We have created the outdoor sweat lodge sauna to derive the physical benefits of a sweat lodge and do not claim to be an authentic sweat lodge.  The willow frame is covered with a canvas tent and the heat source is a wet sauna heater in the floor of a cedar deck to provide a steady flow of heat and steam.

Physical Benefits
The skin is the largest organ of the body and sweating is a wonderful way of eliminating wastes from the body.  A sweat lodge works by helping to open skin pores clogged by pollution, synthetic clothing, indoor toxins and a sedentary lifestyle.

In addition, lactic acid, which is responsible for stiff muscles and contributes to general fatigue, is drawn out of the body by sweating- greatly enhancing the benefits of the massage.

How to get the most out of the Sweat Lodge Sauna
After a sweat of about 15 minutes, you step outside and cool off in the snow, cold outdoor shower  or a cold plunge (spring thru fall). Then it is back inside for another sweat and to repeat the cycle all over again.

The purpose is to create a flushing action of blood rushing to and from your muscles. The heat increases blood flow to the skin by dilating the capillaries  while the cold constricts them.

We created this for its therapeutic values, not as a pampering tool. So, caution to those who cannot handle extreme temperatures above 170 degrees. And of course, absolutely no alcoholic beverages before a sweat.
